Nelson Backpackers FAQ – Accents Hostel
Reception & Checkins
Check-in is from 2pm.
Check-out time is 10am.
If you arrive before 2pm we have a large bag storage room where we can lock your bag away and you can then head out to explore the town.
Our reception is open between 8.30am and 8pm. If you arrive after 8pm we have a Night Manager onsite who can help you.
If you are arriving in Nelson outside our reception hours please contact us to make arrangements to Check In.
Please note that it is not possible to Check In to a shared dormitory room after 10pm as it will disturb other guests who will be sleeping. Please Book a Private Room if you will arrive after 10pm.
Yes, when you Check In you will be given a Door Code so you can come and go from the Hostel after our Reception closes for the evening. For Security reasons the Door Code changes each day, so remember to get the new one before you head out for the evening.
Yes, you can leave your key in the secure tray at Reception.
Unfortunately if you lose your room key you will be charged $29 which is the cost of replacement. So please look after your key!
The $29 is refunded to you if you find the lost key before you leave Nelson or if you mail it back to us.
Late check-out runs until 1pm and costs $20. Late check-out also depends on availability, so please ask us when you are making your booking.
Linen & Services
Yes, we supply all your bedding. Please do not bring sleeping bags or other linen into the Hostel. Top sheets, extra blankets and Hot water bottles are available at no charge, from Reception.
Towels are provided in all our private rooms (Single, Twin, Triple and Double rooms)
If you are staying in a Dorm or Share room you can hire a Towel from reception for a small charge ($3) for the length of your stay
Yes, we have a great laundry with large washing machines and dryers. Prices are: $4 per wash and from $4 per dry.
There is also an outdoor clothesline and a large laundry sink for any clothes you need to handwash.
Yes, but please let the hostel reception staff know in advance. We can't accept responsibility for lost or damaged items
Yes, we have staff on site at all times, so there’s always someone available if you have any urgent issues. Access to the hostel after Reception closes at night is by door code only (which you are given when you Check In).
All guest rooms have their own security key. We also have Security Cameras in the communal areas and hallways.
All our common rooms and kitchens are on the ground floor and we have some disabled access guest rooms. If you have specific requirements please contact us directly to book so we can explain what we can offer.
Only in the Ensuite Rooms, but we have plenty that you can borrow at Reception and there are also some hairdryers in the Bathrooms.
Yes - We have a new free high speed wifi network available throughout the hostel.
You'll receive 1GB free per device per 24 hours.
If you need more than this you can access unlimited high speed wifi for 24 hours for just $2.
Types of Rooms
An ensuite room is a private room with its own bathroom attached, so you don’t have to share. Our ensuite rooms include a shower, handbasin, and toilet. Two Towels and a Bathmat are provided for your comfort and convenience.
A private room is a single, twin, triple or double room that has been booked just for you and/or your friends.
A dorm room can be a private room if you book all the beds in the room. Please do this by contacting us directly.
A twin room is a room that has two single beds.
A double room is a room that has one double bed.
A dorm room, is a room that you share with other people.
Our dorm rooms have either 4, 6 or 8 beds. (some bunks) These are the most economic room types we have.
Yes, we have family rooms available. Options include:
Double Bed plus Single Bed, Double Bed plus 2 Single Beds, Ensuite room with Double Bed plus Single bed or you can "privatise" a dorm room by booking all of the beds in the dorm (our Dorms range from 4 to 9 Beds)
Anyone under the age of 18 can not stay in a Dorm Room with anyone not part of their group.

For bookings of more than 6 people, please contact us directly so that we can ensure you are booked into the same rooms.
Children (anyone under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult and either stay in a private room or a privatised dorm
Top bunks are not recommended for children under the age of 9.
Yes! Many of our guests are solo travellers, and our shared lounges, dining spaces, and kitchen make it super easy to meet others. Plus, being right in the centre of Nelson makes it easy to explore together with new friends.
Location & Transport
We are right in the centre of Nelson. The entrance is on Montgomery Carpark just off Rutherford Street. We are walking distance to all of the city shops, bars, cafes etc.
The Intercity Bus station is just 8 minutes walk from us.
From the airport catch the EBUS it will drop you at the Nelson City Centre Interchange on Bridge Street. We are just a minute walk from there.
Nelson City Taxis is also available from the airport if you prefer.
The Intercity Bus stop is now at Millers Acre carpark, Halifax Street. From there it is an 8 minute walk to our Hostel
There is a council carpark next to us which is Free overnight and at the weekend. There is also free roadside parking nearby. Please ask our staff when you arrive and they will provide you with all the information you need.
Yes, but remember to let the driver know that you are staying with us.
Luggage Storage
Yes, we have a large Bag Storage room for arriving guests.
We have free lockers in all our share and dorm rooms for your valuables: laptops, phones, cameras etc. You will need your own padlock.
Yes, We also offer secure luggage storage through the Bounce App, even if you’re not staying with us. Drop your bags safely and explore Nelson. No booking required
Kitchen, Cooking, Eating Out
Yes we have 2 Large kitchens with all the cooking equipment you'll need including Rice Cookers, Crockpots, pots, pans, plates and cutlery. There is a large glass fronted fridge, a freezer for your icecream ! and storage for dry goods.
Our awesome cleaners leave the kitchen clean and tidy each day. We ask that everyone washes their own dishes so the kitchen stays that way for other guests to use.
Yes! We are lucky to be in the perfect location to access all of Nelson's many food providers.

Hardy Street and the top of Trafalgar Street (near the cathedral steps) are where most of the cafes and restaurants are.
But there are also some great hidden places that are worth finding too!

We have special prices if you want to stay in Nelson for more than 6 nights. Please contact us directly or ask us when you arrive.

You will need to return to the website you used to make the original booking, particularly if you have booked through an Online Travel Agent such as Booking.com, Hostelworld, Agoda, Expedia. Each of these sites has their own Booking terms.
If you have booked directly with us we offer a full refund for cancellations made more than 72 hours before the day of arrival. Cancellations made less than 72 hours before the day of arrival, or in the case of a non-show, will be charged at the rate of the first night.
Group reservations are subject to different terms, please check with us when making your booking.
Special event Bookings and some Holiday periods eg. over the Christmas/January school holiday period may be subject to different terms, please check with us when making your booking.
Alcohol & Smoking Policy
Yes. you can, but please be respectful of other guests in the evenings. If you want to party we are walking distance to lots of great pubs and clubs.
Sorry, we are strictly a No-smoking/vaping hostel to ensure the comfort of all our guests. (This includes outside in the garden and courtyard).
