Reception & Checkins

WHAT ARE THE CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in is from 2pm.

Check-out time is 10am.

If you arrive before 2pm we have a large bag storage room where we can lock your bag away and you can then head out to explore the town.

 

WHEN IS THE HOSTEL RECEPTION OPEN?

Our reception is open between 8.30am and 6pm. If you arrive after 6pm we have a Night Manager onsite who can help you.

CAN I CHECK IN AFTER 9PM?

If you are arriving in Nelson outside our reception hours please contact us to make arrangements to Check In

CAN I GET INTO THE HOSTEL AT NIGHT AFTER RECEPTION CLOSES?

Yes, when you Check In you will be given a Door Code so you can come and go from the Hostel after our Reception closes for the evening.

CAN I CHECK OUT BEFORE RECEPTION OPENS IN THE MORNING?

Yes, you can leave your key in the secure tray at Reception.

WHAT IF I LOSE MY KEY?

Unfortunately if you lose your room key you will be charged $29 which is the cost of replacement. So please look after your key!

The $29 is refunded to you if you find the lost key before you leave Nelson or if you mail it back to us. 

HOW MUCH DOES LATE CHECK OUT COST?

Late check-out runs until 1pm and costs $20. Late check-out also depends on availability, so please ask us when you are making your booking.

Linen & Services

IS ALL BED LINEN SUPPLIED?

Yes, we supply all your bedding. Please do not bring sleeping bags or other linen into the Hostel. Top sheets, extra blankets and Hot water bottles are available at no charge, from Reception.

ARE TOWELS SUPPLIED?

Towels are provided in all our private rooms (single, twin, triple and double rooms)

If you have booked a dorm or share room you can rent a Towel from reception for a small charge ($3)

DO YOU HAVE A GUEST LAUNDRY AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Yes, we have a great laundry with large washing machines and dryers. Prices are: $4 per wash and from $4 per dry.

There is also an outdoor clothesline and a large laundry sink for any clothes you need to handwash.

CAN I HAVE MAIL OR PARCELS DELIVERED TO THE HOSTEL?

Yes, but please let the hostel reception staff know in advance. We can't accept responsibility for lost or damaged items

IS THE HOSTEL SAFE AND SECURE?

Yes, we have staff on site at all times, so there’s always someone available if you have any urgent issues. Access to the hostel after Reception closes at night is by door code only (which you are given when you Check In).

All guest rooms have their own security key. We also have Security Cameras in the communal areas and hallways.

DO YOU HAVE DISABLED ACCESS?

All our common rooms and kitchens are on the ground floor and we have some disabled access guest rooms. If you have specific requirements please contact us directly to book so we can explain what we can offer.

ARE THERE HAIRDRYERS IN THE ROOMS?

Only in the Ensuite Rooms, but we have plenty that you can borrow at Reception and there are also some hairdryers in the Bathrooms.

DO YOU HAVE FREE WIFI INTERNET?

Yes - We have a new free high speed wifi network available throughout the hostel.

You'll receive 1GB free per device per 24 hours.

If you need more than this you can access unlimited high speed wifi for 24 hours for just $2.

 

Types of Rooms

WHAT’S AN EN-SUITE ROOM?

A private room that has its own bathroom attached to the bedroom. Our ensuites have a Shower, handbasin and toilet.

 

WHAT’S A PRIVATE ROOM?

A private room is a single, twin, triple or double room that has been booked just for you and/or your friends.

A dorm room can be a private room if you book all the beds in the room. Please do this by contacting us directly.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TWIN ROOM AND A DOUBLE ROOM?

A twin room is a room that has two single beds.

A double room is a room that has one double bed.

WHAT’S A DORM ROOM?

A dorm room, is a room that you share with other people.

Our dorm rooms have either 4, 6 or 8 beds. (some bunks) These are the most economic room types we have.

DO YOU HAVE FAMILY ROOMS?

Yes, we have family rooms available or you can privatise a dorm room by booking all of the beds in the dorm.

Children can not stay in dorm rooms with strangers.

Contact us directly and we can let you know the best options.

HOW DO I MAKE A GROUP BOOKING?

For bookings of more than 6 people, please contact us directly so that we can ensure you are booked into the same rooms.

ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS FOR CHILDREN?

Children (anyone under the age of 18)  must be accompanied by an adult and either stay in a private room or a privatised dorm

Top bunks are not recommended for children under the age of 9.

Location & Transport

WHERE IS THE HOSTEL LOCATED?

We are right in the centre of Nelson. The entrance is on Montgomery Carpark just off Rutherford Street. We are walking distance to all of the city shops, bars, cafes etc.

The Intercity Bus station is just one minute walk from us.

HOW DO I GET TO THE HOSTEL FROM THE AIRPORT/BUS STATION?

 From the airport currently catching aTaxi is the only available transport. Nelson City Council is developing an airport Bus Route but this is not yet operating

WHERE CAN I PARK MY CAR?

There is a council carpark next to us which is Free overnight and at the weekend. There is also free roadside parking nearby. Please ask our staff when you arrive and they will provide you with all the information you need.

DO KIWI EXPERIENCE/STRAY BUSES PICK UP OR DROP OFF?

Yes, but remember to let the driver know that you are staying with us.

Luggage Storage

CAN I STORE MY LUGGAGE BEFORE CHECK-IN?

Yes, we have a large Bag Storage room for arriving guests.

DO YOU HAVE LOCKERS IN THE BEDROOMS AND HOW MUCH DO THEY COST TO USE?

We have free lockers in all our share and dorm rooms for your valuables: laptops, phones, cameras etc.  You will need your own padlock. 

CAN I STORE MY LUGGAGE AT THE HOSTEL WHILE I AM AWAY ON A TRIP?

Yes, If you have a return booking with us we offer luggage storage.

Kitchen, Cooking, Eating Out

DO YOU HAVE A KITCHEN WHERE I CAN COOK MY OWN FOOD?

Cooking in the large well equipped kitchen at Accents YHA Hostel NelsonYes we have 2 Large kitchens with all the cooking equipment you'll need including Rice Cookers, Crockpots, pots, pans, plates and cutlery. There are several fridges and also storage for dry goods.

We ask that all guests wash their own dishes so the kitchens are tidy for other guests to use.

WHAT'S FOR BREAKFAST?

We provide a selection of Freshly Baked Bread delivered each morning in the main kitchen.

There is usually enough to last through the whole day - So you can make your Lunch as well as Breakfast!

IF I DON'T WANT TO COOK ARE THERE GOOD CAFES AND RESTAURANTS NEARBY?

Yes! We are lucky to be in the perfect location to access all of Nelson's many food providers.

Ask our reception staff for suggestions.

Hardy Street and the top of Trafalgar Street (near the cathedral steps) are where most of the cafes and restaurants are.

But there are also some great hidden places that are worth finding too! 

Bookings

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL DEALS OR DISCOUNTS

Depending on the time of year we have Special Offers available. You can check these out on our website or contact us directly. If you are a YHA or HIC Member you will receive a 10% discount on the nightly room rate all year round.

IS THERE A MAXIMUM LENGTH OF TIME I CAN STAY?

You can book for a maximum of 6 nights. It may be possible to stay for a longer period of time depending on the time of year and other guests bookings. Please contact us directly or ask at Reception.

CAN YOU HELP ME MAKE BOOKINGS FOR TRANSPORT AND LOCAL ACTIVITIES?

Yes, we can help with local activity bookings and onward travel and accommodation. Just ask our reception staff.

HOW CAN I CHANGE MY BOOKING OR CANCEL MY BOOKING?

You will need to return to the site you used to make the original booking, particularly if you have booked through an Online Travel Agent such as Booking.com, Hostelworld, Agoda, Expedia or on the YHA NZ Website. Each of these sites has their own Booking terms.

If you have booked directly with us we offer a full refund for cancellations made more than 24 hours before the day of arrival. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the day of arrival, or in the case of a non-show, will be charged at the rate of the first night.

Group reservations are subject to different terms, please check with us when making your booking.

Special event Bookings and some Holiday periods may be subject to different terms, please check with us when making your booking.

Alcohol & Smoking Policy

CAN I BRING ALCOHOL INTO THE HOSTEL?

Yes. you can, but please be respectful of other guests in the evenings. If you want to party we are walking distance to lots of great pubs and clubs.

CAN I SMOKE/VAPE IN THE HOSTEL?

Sorry, we are strictly a No-smoking/vaping hostel to ensure the comfort of all our guests.  (This includes outside in the garden and courtyard).
